Ask York. (Coming soon!)

What is Ask York?  Well – first ask yourself “What are the burning issues affecting York today?”

Ask York is a brand new show coming to Two Rivers Radio in 2018 that seeks to discuss this question by raising issues with an expert panel and maybe even come up with some answers – all while enjoying a drink and perhaps a bite to eat.

The very first edition will be recorded at Angel on the Green from 8pm on Wednesday 24th January.  Please join our live audience and bring a question for our panel!  There is seating for around 30 – so please arrive in good time to avoid disappointment.

Pete Kilbane, indie businessman and community activist will be your host and our chair.

The panel will include:

Kate Pickett – Professor of Epidemiology, University Champion for Research on Justice and Equality, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Future Health;
University of York (also co-author of The Spirit Level: Why more equal societies almost always do better

Paul Healey – Conservative councilor for 8 years up to 2015 and Deputy Group Leader. Small business owner.

Helen Graham – Helen has been working on the My Castle Gateway project and teaches Heritage Studies at the University of Leeds.

Jonny Crawshaw

The show will not be broadcast live, but will be recorded and broadcast the following Monday 29th at 2pm. You will be able to listen to the broadcast here: www.tworiversradio.stream – and we will be archiving the show on this website, too.

The recording will begin at 8:30 and last for approximately 1 hour.

Each month, we will put together a panel of local politicians, journalists, campaigners, business-people, academics and experts in all manner of fields to be quizzed by a live audience.

This is your opportunity to ask questions of those in the City that are making and affecting the decisions we as a community all have to live with and to hear all sides of many contentious debates.

It would be great if those who wish to come and ask a question contact the show in advance so that we have an idea of numbers. If you could also indicate the topic that you wish to discuss (not necessarily the specific question) that would be very useful: email – tworiversradio@gmail.com

Although the recording begins at 8:30, you are welcome to arrive early. The Angel on the Green has a wonderful menu (available until 8pm) and a cosy bar serving an excellent range of hot and cold drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. There will also be time after the recording for audience and panel members to mingle and further discuss the topics raised.

So whether you have a question about housing, business rates, students, alcohol licencing, local services, health, education, road maintenance, recycling, benefits, green economy, use of public space, development of brownfield sites, universal credit, redevelopment, creating a Yorkshire Assembly, employment, Coney Street, making better use of the river, tourism, cultural diversity, equality or anything else — please get in touch.

Ask York

Ask York is Two Rivers Radio’s monthly panel show looking at all of the key issues affecting the city.  The format is simple: we put together a panel of local politicians, journalists, academics and thought leaders who field questions from a live studio audience.

Ask York is not broadcast live, but is recorded a day or two before transmission.  If you would like to be in the audience for this or any future editions please do get in touch: tworiversradio@gmail.com

The April edition of the show will be focusing on city centre regeneration, retail decline and the end of the high-street.  Is the high-street as we know it in danger of being lost forever – look at all the empty units on Coney Street!  Or, are big businesses pulling out of the city centre in favour of out of town retail packs and in turn opening the city centre up for a Bishy Road-esque explosion of interesting, locally owned independents.

This is a highly emotive and relevant topic to anybody who has a love for this city.  This will be a programme not to be missed.

Panelists and recording venue TBC.

Just Jessin’ About

Nationally acclaimed York DJ, Just Jess takes the reigns once a month – playing a live mix of the best electroswing, ghetto-funk, breaks& more!  Plenty of exclusives and always funky, Just Jessin’ About is an appointment to listen for anybody with dancing feet!

Electronooky!

Our very own Jez Russell will be spinning the very best in Electroswing this Saturday night  (and the second Saturday of every month this year) at the Nook, York.

There will be great, toe-tapping tunes, £4 cocktails, great people and top vibes.

If this video doesn’t whet your whistle  –  get yourselves down there anyway  –  it’s going to be a corker!

If you're undecided about coming to The Nook tomorrow night for drinks, dancing and electroswing – maybe this video will persuade you!?
