Stairwell Books Presents gets Edinburgh visitor Max Scratchmann!

Rose and Alan are delighted to welcome Max Scratchmann on Monday 22 January. Little did Rose know that when she put out a call for writers to come and chat – whether self-published, or never published, or Stairwell or non-Stairwell – that Max would ask if he could stop by. Yes!

Max is a well-known British writer and illustrator. His poems and short stories have appeared in many anthologies and magazines, and he co-runs the Edinburgh performance poetry company, Poetry Circus.

He is the author of 16 books, including the award-winning autobiography about Scottish jute workers in India, The Last Burrah Sahibs, and the unintentionally controversial account of downshifting in the Scottish islands, Chucking It All. [Rose plans to ask about this!]

Max lives in Edinburgh and is a regular performer at the Festival Fringe as well as having been seen at the Glasgow Comedy Festival, the Imaginate Festival, the Celtic Mystery Festival, the Merchant City Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, the Hidden Door Festival and many more…

“Poetry Circus has become one of the bigger players in Edinburgh’s spoken word scene” – The Scotsman

So, please join us on Monday, the 22nd, between 1pm and 2pm: and listen again once the show has been archived by Jez and Declan.

Rose & Alan

Our very own Jez Russell will be spinning the very best in Electroswing this Saturday night  (and the second Saturday of every month this year) at the Nook, York.

There will be great, toe-tapping tunes, £4 cocktails, great people and top vibes.

If this video doesn’t whet your whistle  –  get yourselves down there anyway  –  it’s going to be a corker!

If you're undecided about coming to The Nook tomorrow night for drinks, dancing and electroswing – maybe this video will persuade you!? (either way) 😛 by Mark Chandler of HMGW – Thanks Mark!(Video taken at Two Rivers Radio fundraiser gig – at the Corner Pin, 12/11/17)

Join the Audience for Ask York.

What is Ask York? Well – first ask yourself ‘”What are the burning issues affecting York today?”

Ask York is a brand new show for Two Rivers Radio in 2018 that seeks to discuss many of the pressing questions facing the city today – by raising the issues with an expert panel.  The panel will bring answers, raise new questions and perhaps even come up with some solutions!  –  all while enjoying a drink and maybe a bite to eat.

Two Rivers Radio welcomes you to be part of the Ask York audience at The Angel on the Green from 8pm on Wednesday 24th January.

There is seating for around 30 – so please arrive in good time to avoid disappointment.

The show will not be broadcast live, but will be recorded and broadcast the following Monday 29th at 2pm. You will be able to listen to the broadcast here: – and we will be archiving the show on the website, too.

The recording will begin at 8:30 and last for approximately 1 hour.

Each month, we will put together a panel of local politicians, journalists, campaigners, business-people, academics and experts in all manner of fields to be quizzed by a live audience.

The host and panel are for the 24th are yet to be confirmed, but as we get confirmations we will be updating the event so watch this space!

This is your opportunity to ask questions of those in the City that are making and affecting the decisions we as a community all have to live with and to hear all sides of many contentious debates.

It would be great if those who wish to come and ask a question contact the show in advance so that we have an idea of numbers. If you could also indicate the topic that you wish to discuss (not necessarily the specific question) that would be very useful: email –

Although the recording begins at 8:30, you are welcome to arrive early. The Angel on the Green has a wonderful menu (available until 8pm) and a cosy bar serving an excellent range of hot and cold drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. There will also be time after the recording for audience and panel members to mingle and further discuss the topics raised.

So whether you have a question about housing, business rates, students, alcohol licencing, local services, health, education, road maintenance, recycling, benefits, green economy, use of public space, development of brownfield sites, universal credit, redevelopment, creating a Yorkshire Assembly, employment, Coney Street, making better use of the river, tourism, cultural diversity, equality or anything else — please get in touch.

Two Rivers Radio is a not-for-profit oganisation run exclusively by volunteers. If you like what we’re doing and would like to show your support further than attending the event, or maybe you’d like to get involved – please ‘like’ our page, comment on posts, invite your friends and find us on Twitter/Instagram @TwoRiversRadio

We hope to see a great turn-out at our inaugural Ask York.
