12pm-2pm –  It’s Declan Minskip with Double Lunchtime Rush!  In this week’s lunchtime rush we’ll be discussing more things to do in the summer holidays, upcoming poetry events co hosted by Declan, and also about the sad passing of Aretha Franklin.

2pm – 3pmBlack York with Fasil Demsash is back, introducing us to new music and also disusing Boris Johnson’s questionable remarks about women wearing the face vail.

3pm – 4pm – Breaking York  with Graham Blueskies and Guest presenter Declan Minskip. A show dedicated to playing original material from unsigned and independent Artists/bands/labels and studios with the added fizz of telling our listeners interesting. Elements of who, what, where and when. This week’s show will be featuring tracks by: Steve McManus, Crush and the Mighty Rhythm, ODi, The Feds, Steve Larkman, Slack Habits. 

4pm-5pm – This week we re run an episode of Yor Living Well with Juliet Powell.  Juiet will be chatting to Ruth Traynor Tarr. She will be talking candidly about her experiences of IVF – how this affected her mental health and the whys and wherefores of what its like to experience this process.
Of course this will be accompanied by great music from the 80’s and 90’s and our simple tips to take better care of your self.

5pm- 7pm –  CatchaFire duo York Man and Daddy Harper are live at Rototom Sunsplash European Reggae Festival! Big shout out to them and hope they are having best of fun in the Reggae paradise! But fear not, they have prepped a fantastic pre-record for us to enjoy!

7pm – 9pm – This month’s HMGW Show is a pre record. It has a mix of independent and mainstream music, games were looking forward to, what upcoming wrestling shows there are, a music game and
an interview with the owner Lee of Sore Thumb Retro Games York.

9pm – 10pm –  And to close the day, we have Mr. Paul Coull the Soul Man himself, this week celebrating the Soul Queen, Aretha Franklin.

12pm-2pm –  It’s Declan Minskip with Double Lunchtime Rush!! Music madness and a dose of good humor for special two hours today!

2pm – 3pm –  We will be joined by some very talented young musicians as #TRR plays host to the York heat of Junior Star Singer Songwriter.

3pm – 4pm – This week on What Rock? We’ll be looking over the genre of Prog-Rock, from where it originated to how it sounds now! Pink Floyd, Rush, Kansas, and for modern choices, let’s go The Mars Volta.

4pm-5pm – In this weeks Information Takeaway, Juliet will chatting to Angela Jones from The Samaritans here in York. We will be discussing the work they do, who they help and how to get involved in supporting the great work they do. Plus great music as usual.

5pm- 4pm – And we Continue with Junior Star Singer Songwriter York Heat recording from yesterday, joined by more young talented musicians!

6pm – 7pm – This week’s Weirdness is absolutely 100% live. We enjoyed last month’s discussion about monsters so much that this month we went one step further: Lovecraftian Horrors. Nothing will go wrong

7pm –  8pm –  It’s time for the Fanfiction Show!

8pm – 9pm – In replay of last months’ Glass Half Full Kate will be joined by representatives of York cycling groups and Clean Air York to discuss how the city could transition to an Amsterdam-style cycling culture. And, as the heatwave continues, Kate talks to Yorkclimate scientist Dr Andreas Heinemeyer about the implications for us all in a warming world. Plus, if Trump is making you blue, Ned Hoste of One Planet York has some tips on how to channel your creative passions to build a positive outlook!

9pm – 10pm –  Maxime Maigret presents Baguette et Croissant as we dive into adventurous exploration of French music! 

10pm – 11pm – Upside Your Mind will close the day with some blissful tunes. A trip from the basement to the tropics and back is waiting for you…

Claudia will interview Charlotte Dawson of the York River Art Market and talk about some local exhibitions including the poignant Refuse/Refuge currently in York Art Gallery.

5pm -7pm – Just Jessin’ Around with Jess Parker, live DJ session in the Corner Pin.

7pm – 8pm – Christian Greenwood is back with Music History 101: this time presenting Primal Scream!

8pm- 9pm –  Kate Lock is very excited to be sharing the Two Rivers Radio studio with York jazz musician Ian Chalk for All That Brass. Ian, who is music director of York Jazz Initiative, will be talking about his musical influences, his career as a brass player and much more, as well as picking his personal selection of music.

9pm – 10pm – The Soul Man, Paul Coull is back with the Soul Hour. Tune in for some great selection of tracks!!

10pm – 11pm – Upside Your Mind will close the day with some blissful tunes. A trip from the basement to the tropics and back is waiting for you…

3pm – 4pm – What Rock? Tune in this week for a brief look into Ska music. We’ll be looking at it from its origins right through to what it is now!

Black Rose Events – York

SO WHO ARE WE & WHAT DO WE DO?


We are a small hard but working team of goths. Our first event was in 2013 when two of our group decided that they really wanted to attend a high Goth, elegant, masquerade ball in the UK. However, they couldn’t find the sort of event they were after so decided to start their own. From small acorns , hopefully,  come mighty oaks as we have seen our event grow over the last 6 years.

The Masquerade Ball has always been the centre piece of our weekend. Elegant, in a prestige venue, in a gorgeous city. Joined by like-minded people, open to all who love dark gothic elegance. We have added  both a concert night and a trading event to the ball over the years.

 

The other two central aims for all our events are to create safe spaces for the alternative gothic community that are open to all who feel different – and to raise funds for charity. In the first two years we raised funds for a local hospice, that does excellent work, but in the last 4 years, we decided to raise for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation as it is a charity close to all our hearts in the alternative scene.

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Our concert   will take place on Friday 31st August 2018 at the Fulford Arms between 7:30pm-11pm and features the bands:-

They Called Him Zone – Dark post-punk mixing sultry Electronics and chewed up guitars     

 

 

 

Red Sun Revival – Powerful gothic rock with haunting violin melodies 

 

 

 

 

& headlining act Bad Pollyanna – Female fronted, guitar driven hybrid gothic rock!!

 

 

 

ABOUT THE BIZARRE BAZAAR

We will once again be holding the Black Rose Bazaar in the De Grey Rooms on Saturday 1st September between 11:00am -4:00pm.  Where a number of handpicked traders will sell unique gothic and alternative handcrafted items, alongside a gothic themed café in the bar area. Tea and cake whilst shopping you know it makes sense.  

 

ABOUT THE BALL

The  Jewel  in our crown  but for now that jewel appears slightly tarnished as this year’s Ball  theme is ‘Wasteland’ … an elegant, glamorous and very decadent ball has been interrupted by a post-apocalyptic event… the ball is now only a memory of this elegant affair…. the glory of the event has faded but the party must carry on….

And finally the reason we do this, the charity for which we raise money

THE SOPHIE LANCASTER FOUNDATION

Sophie Lancaster died on the 24th August 2007 following a mindless and savage attack on her and her partner Robert Maltby on the 11th August 2007.  The reason for this attack merely that Sophie and Robert were dressed differently. Sophie’s mother Sylvia took the decision that a charity should be set up in her daughter’s name

The Aims of the Charity are as follows *

  • To create a lasting legacy to Sophie
  • To provide educational work groups that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people  from alternative subcultures
  • To campaign to have the UK Hate Crime  legislation extended to include people from alternative subcultures or lifestyle  or dress

A Snippet of StaxTENbury 2018

We had a fantastic weekend at StaxTENbury at the beginning of July!  Its taken a while to get round to writing our first post-StaxTENbury blog, but here we go…

HMGW produced 3 StaxTENbury specials over the weekend and interviewed some fantastic bands and artists.  We were even lucky enough to have a few do live sessions with us in the Radio Shack!
